5 Worst/Best Modern Simpsons Episodes

Yes, I know I am not fun at parties. You do not need to tell me that, or sarcastically say that I am. I just want you to reconsider this list because the Simpsons is such an old, long-lasting series with so many episodes, you or Phantom Strider will need to make another list of the worst and best modern(-er) episodes sometime next year. All I hope for next time is that you or he will choose at least 3 newer episodes where the Simpsons are in their own typical setting, not temporarily aged up or in another crossover or spending most of the episode in an amazing dream. I hate that you forgot to include A Totally Fun Thing Bart Will Never Do Again, Halloween of Horror and Friend With Benefit in the 5 best modern Simpsons episodes. Why are all of the most unusual plot lines the ones he likes the most here? They should not be the best by default, and I think you and Phantom Strider should probably make another Worst/Best modern episodes list for the seasons 2015-present, which he did for Family Guy, because all of these The Simpsons episodes are from before Season 27, except for Every Man's Dream and Barthood. Jim, do you have any The Simpsons episodes you really like or hate in late 2015 or later that you would like to talk about with him? Full disclosure; I never cared for Holidays of Future Passed and Barthood, even if they were the best, because I knew why I couldn't. They make this a less enjoyable list to watch when I know those won't matter because the characters never grow up permanently. Do you have any other new The Simpsons episodes you genuinely enjoy that are not a temporary flash forward, the Futurama crossover or an elaborate dream of Homer? This can include the three titles I just told you above. Full disclosure again; I actually do care for Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind and Brick Like Me. However, Brick Like Me is a bit worse than I remember because it never actually showed Homer getting bored with being too safe in the LEGO world, among other faults. And Barthood, I didn't like since it repeats the same problems of Bart getting ignored by Homer and outshined by Lisa, never being able to escape her shadow, which led to a painfully cruel joke of irony when Bart got hurt in professional skateboarding. Oh, wow, I didn't realize that Eternal Sunshine was in Season 19. I guess I didn't pay attention to the writing in the video that showed which season each episode was in. So I actually was able to watch that one, as I have the Season 19 DVD. I got it for Christmas but hadn't watched it yet. I liked the episode. Didn't love it, but liked it.

Agreed. Likewise how the show creators just seem determined to have Bart fail. What happened to the future where he was a wrecking ball operator? That fit his character perfectly since he loves destroying things and it wasn't a completely unrealistic job for him either. As for the "best" episode - his kids hate him (why? I think he'd be a really fun dad, always getting into mischief with his kids but apparently he's an absent father? That doesn't fit with his character at all) and he's just portrayed as such a loser for no other reason than the show creators just seeming spiteful that Bart was always the more popular character as opposed to Lisa. He wouldn't be on par with her in terms of his achievements but when he finds things he is good at he's brilliant (the drums, the t-shirt business, his catchphrase, the elaborate pranks he pulls which take some real dedication and thought to put together) so to imply he would be an outright failure well into his 20s / 30s is just poor writing. The creators are so determined to parade Lisa out as the "best" but in the process they've turned her into an unlikeable Mary-Sue character.

Don't be. I enjoyed it too. It's a great episode, and had many good moments, jokes and adventure.
